Que dire qui s&rsquo;adresserait \u00e0 chacun ou comment dire une chose sous une seule forme de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 \u00eatre entendu de tous ou du plus grand nombre ?, face \u00e0 un d\u00e9dale de formes et d&rsquo;expressions, de centres d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eats et de cultures, mais face aussi \u00e0 un nombre r\u00e9duit de sujets \u00e0 caract\u00e8re ou \u00e0 port\u00e9e universels.<\/p>\n<p>La qu\u00eate n\u2019est elle pas illusoire ? Comment dire grand ou vite ? Haut ou sp\u00e9cifique ? Comment dire \u00e7a, ici ou l\u00e0, qui veuille dire grand ou vite, haut ou sp\u00e9cifique pour tous, \u00e7a, ici ou l\u00e0 ? A multiplier les param\u00e8tres significatifs pour s&rsquo;adresser \u00e0 tous en remplissant le support quel qu&rsquo;il soit de notations propres et d\u00e9cryptables pour chaque culture individuelle ou de groupe, on atteindrait un seuil d\u2019illisibilit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;un accumulateur, nouveau facteur, serait seul \u00e0 pouvoir justifier sans pour autant pouvoir d\u00e9fendre qu&rsquo;il ne dit qu&rsquo;une chose autre que le temps ou l\u2019exc\u00e8s, et ce de mani\u00e8re telle qu&rsquo;il serait s\u00fbrement per\u00e7u. Les param\u00e8tres donnant acc\u00e8s \u00e0 un contenu doivent donc \u00eatre peu nombreux pour limiter le nombre d&rsquo;interpr\u00e9tations possibles.<\/p>\n<p>Mais l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de r\u00e9duire l&rsquo;expression au plus petit nombre possible de messages n\u2019est pas nouvelle et l&rsquo;\u00e9puration de la forme qui lui est cons\u00e9cutive connue. Des repr\u00e9sentations ont travers\u00e9 l&rsquo;histoire qui tentaient de signifier l&rsquo;essentiel au moyen de formes minimales et d\u00e9barrass\u00e9es, justement, de l&rsquo;inessentiel. Pour autant, la boule qui signifie boule, la d\u00e9ambulation permise dont on retiendra l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de pr\u00e9sence, de passage ou de mouvement et dont le spectateur n&rsquo;aura probablement pas conscience avant qu&rsquo;on ne le lui explique par d&rsquo;autres moyens, la proposition d&rsquo;une participation qui a pour but la modification de param\u00e8tres, l&rsquo;interactivit\u00e9 : rien de tout cela ne peut se rendre perceptible en tant que sujet au moyen d&rsquo;images seules et s&rsquo;adressant \u00e0 tous.<\/p>\n<p>Parvenu ici et apr\u00e8s avoir travaill\u00e9 des formes dans l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de sugg\u00e9rer une id\u00e9e unique au moyen d&rsquo;une forme elle-m\u00eame simple et homog\u00e8ne, irr\u00e9ductible \u00e0 autre chose qui porterait le m\u00eame sens, l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de creuser a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 prendre la forme mentale d&rsquo;un creux dans la pierre et d&rsquo;une oeuvre qui serait d\u00e9barrass\u00e9e de tout, y compris de sa forme mais additionn\u00e9e de ce questionnement : jusqu\u2019o\u00f9 en art l\u2019intention peut elle \u00eatre \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 l\u2019acte ?<br \/>Moi qui m\u2019interroge sur cette absence et ses limites, j\u2019ai parcouru le chemin qui ne passe en guise de signe distinctif que par mon paraphe, d\u00e9mesur\u00e9ment agrandi et grav\u00e9 dans la mati\u00e8re. A peine lisible d\u00e9j\u00e0, le signe a disparu avec le support qui s\u2019est effrit\u00e9 sous mes yeux en quelques mois : en m\u00eame temps que disparaissait l\u2019illisibilit\u00e9 m\u00eame se profilait pleinement la seule et belle absence\u2026<br \/>Ici est n\u00e9e l&rsquo;id\u00e9e que l\u2019\u0153uvre est creuse parce que presque imm\u00e9diatement s&rsquo;est form\u00e9e l&rsquo;image du spectateur qui ne projette en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;une partie de lui-m\u00eame ou de son imaginaire sur une image qui l&rsquo;autorise. Et s&rsquo;il y a bien la place pour d\u2019autres propositions, ce n&rsquo;est pas pour autant que l&rsquo;auteur les y a mises. L\u2019\u0153uvre appara\u00eet telle un creuset, une chambre d&rsquo;\u00e9cho qui ne renvoie rien d&rsquo;autre que ce que l&rsquo;on est en mesure d&rsquo;y recevoir par soi. Ce que le spectateur croit mat\u00e9riellement voir n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;un des reflets possibles de sa propre pens\u00e9e ou de lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, l&rsquo;exemple de ces oeuvres dont on dit qu&rsquo;elles trahissent tel ou tel autre aspect inconscient de la personnalit\u00e9 ou des pr\u00e9occupations de leur auteur, inscrites malgr\u00e9 lui dans le cours des processus d&rsquo;\u00e9laboration n\u2019est que partiellement juste. Plus souvent que la r\u00e9v\u00e9lation de ce que l&rsquo;auteur est intimement, c&rsquo;est une partie de ce qu&rsquo;il peut qui est d&rsquo;abord visible. Ce que nous percevons, c&rsquo;est une interpr\u00e9tation par effet retour de ce que nous, spectateurs, projetons sur l\u2019\u0153uvre que nous regardons, b\u00e9ats d\u2019avoir compris. Venue de nous-m\u00eames et de notre propre espace mental, l&rsquo;image per\u00e7ue peut ais\u00e9ment avoir l&rsquo;aspect d&rsquo;un reconnaissable trompeur qu&rsquo;il est bien simple de projeter sur autre chose, pour ne pas dire sur quelqu&rsquo;un d&rsquo;autre.<br \/>L&rsquo;image agit de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re qu&rsquo;un miroir dont on voudrait croire qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;un autoportrait. Il s&rsquo;agit effectivement d&rsquo;une sorte d&rsquo;autoportrait, partiel et ponctuel qui fait \u00e9tat d&rsquo;une intention \u00e0 partir d&rsquo;un \u00eatre et de moyens, toutes choses inaccessibles en l&rsquo;absence d&rsquo;une analyse plus fine et prolong\u00e9e que le simple coup d\u2019\u0153il. Mais le constat de cet \u00e9tat (de l&rsquo;autre, l&rsquo;auteur) n&rsquo;est pas si facilement accessible et d\u00e9codable. Il appartient \u00e0 l&rsquo;artiste s\u2019il le d\u00e9sire ; il est ce que l\u2019\u0153uvre lui permet, relativement \u00e0 son propre apprentissage.<\/p>\n<p>Quoi ! Un auteur passerait des ann\u00e9es \u00e0 observer ses limites et \u00e0 travailler un m\u00e9dium, \u00e0 acqu\u00e9rir la ma\u00eetrise de ses outils et de son langage ; il passerait des jours ou des mois \u00e0 canaliser sa pens\u00e9e, corrigerait, modifierait une oeuvre qu&rsquo;il regarde en permanence et \u00e9tudie, compose et met en forme, sans pouvoir dire plus que dans un jet de pisse ? En l\u2019absence de texte explicatif, la vision primaire \u00e0 laquelle renvoie une oeuvre est un indicateur qui concerne d&rsquo;abord le regardeur. Elle doit \u00eatre un des moyens conscients de la reconnaissance de soi et de son propre \u00e9tat dans la projection qui en est faite sur support donn\u00e9 : Ce que je sais reconna\u00eetre, c\u2019est moi !<\/p>\n<p>Ne jugeant plus possible de m&rsquo;adresser \u00e0 tous, \u00e0 moins de ne rien dire au moyen d&rsquo;une forme qui pourrait servir de support sans garantie de ne pouvoir atteindre qu&rsquo;un but, j&rsquo;ai donc d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de r\u00e9aliser des contenants et d&rsquo;\u00e9tudier, en d\u00e9posant dans quelque cavit\u00e9 cette interrogation : Qu&rsquo;est-ce qu&rsquo;on met dedans ? Qu&rsquo;est-ce qu&rsquo;on projette et dans quoi ? Les r\u00e9ponses apport\u00e9es sont personnelles, ponctuelles et dispara\u00eetront comme ont disparu les oeufs de pierre\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Reste ceci. Un artiste est un m\u00e9dium, qui enferm\u00e9 sur lui-m\u00eame et apte seulement \u00e0 ne s\u2019ouvrir aux mondes que quelques instants, absorbe et restitue ce que son entourage lui a envoy\u00e9 et lui envoie, modifi\u00e9 par sa pens\u00e9e. Plus il s\u2019ouvre plus il per\u00e7oit le bruit confus mais lisible du monde, comme s\u2019il s\u2019agissait d\u2019une symphonie dont il d\u00e9crypterait les notes, ainsi que la composition. Ce faisant, c\u2019est probablement l\u2019une des conditions de l\u2019\u0153uvre, il exprime, outre son sentiment, une id\u00e9e, une partie de ce qu\u2019il est et, en plus de son sujet, le monde \u00e0 l\u2019instant o\u00f9 il est. L\u2019int\u00e9riorisation de la pens\u00e9e, la r\u00e9ceptivit\u00e9, le travail, produiront parfois comme un \u00e9tat de gr\u00e2ce, o\u00f9 tout ce qui est dit vaut l\u00e0 simplement pour tous ou pour un tr\u00e8s grand nombre. La plus grande ma\u00eetrise se sera r\u00e9solue dans la plus grande libert\u00e9, le flot aura coul\u00e9. On ne peut le pr\u00e9voir mais dans ce qui est dit et fait il y aura tout un monde.<\/p>\n<p>Un vaste espace int\u00e9rieur disponible, une grande ma\u00eetrise, une grande libert\u00e9 offrent des possibilit\u00e9s de s\u2019adresser \u00e0 la pointe de son temps et de son fait, illusoirement \u00e0 tous, \u00e0 l\u2019avant quelle que soit la position, fascin\u00e9 et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9coute du paysage. Dans les faits un artiste transmet la fonction de ce qu\u2019il est. A partir de ce mot \u00e0 double sens, son travail de la pierre s&rsquo;est orient\u00e9 autour de ces lieux communs \u00e0 tous, lieux de passage, de rencontre, de partages&#8230; qui rythment nos vies et nos itin\u00e9raires.<br \/>Les limites, grilles-fronti\u00e8res et les murs-m\u00eames, deviennent sujets de lumi\u00e8res o\u00f9 chacun est libre de choisir sa libert\u00e9 mais aussi son enfermement&#8230; Les champs visuels peuvent s&rsquo;\u00e9largir ou diminuer par la multiplicit\u00e9 des coupes, la suggestion des formes, des id\u00e9es&#8230; Des maisons troglodytes aux ruches anim\u00e9es, d&rsquo;une prison symbolique \u00e0 un lieu de pri\u00e8re intime et serein, il tisse ici un lien d&rsquo;humanit\u00e9 d&rsquo;un spectateur \u00e0 l&rsquo;autre, titillant, provocant notre imaginaire dans ce qu&rsquo;il a de plus large ou de plus singulier. Les fines parois de pierre qui s\u00e9parent ces derni\u00e8res au c\u0153ur du bloc sont perc\u00e9es de trous destin\u00e9s \u00e0 laisser passer la lumi\u00e8re.<br \/>Au cours de la pr\u00e9sentation de la sculpture au public, d&rsquo;autres pierres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur des niches, trois oeufs polis qui laissent appara\u00eetre leur couleur : l&rsquo;un en gypse blanc, un autre en schiste vert, le troisi\u00e8me en anhydrite grise. Deux d&rsquo;entre eux sont dispos\u00e9s sur un lit de schiste vert broy\u00e9 en fine poudre.<br \/>La disposition des oeufs est command\u00e9e par le jeu simple de la juxtaposition des couleurs : l&rsquo;\u0153uf blanc repose sur un lit de poudre verte, la pierre verte est pos\u00e9e directement dans son alv\u00e9ole grise, l&rsquo;\u0153uf gris a \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9 sur de la poudre verte, \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur de l&rsquo;ouverture situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;arri\u00e8re, tr\u00e8s blanche.<br \/>La sculpture \u00e9voque les lieux communs, lieux de rencontres et d&rsquo;\u00e9changes, les espaces \u00ab\u00a0habit\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb, t\u00e9moins de la pr\u00e9sence ou du passage autant que de la gen\u00e8se des choses. Les petites pierres, symboles et marques de ce passage ont aujourd&rsquo;hui disparu : ne subsistent au creux des alv\u00e9oles, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d&rsquo;idoles d\u00e9rob\u00e9es, plus que leur souvenir et une id\u00e9e. Elle poursuit le travail entam\u00e9 avec \u00ab Locus IV, la pierre dans la pierre \u00bb (gypse, schiste et anhydrite), r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en juillet 1999 \u00e0 St Jean de Maurienne et \u00abWandering about stones \u00bb (granit et sandstone), r\u00e9alis\u00e9e en septembre 1999 \u00e0 Langholm en Ecosse.<br \/>Comme les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, cette pi\u00e8ce comporte des ouvertures carr\u00e9es ou rectangulaires superpos\u00e9es : des niches, \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur desquelles a \u00e9t\u00e9 dispos\u00e9e de la terre color\u00e9e, comme ailleurs d&rsquo;autres pierres, de la poudre de terre ou de pierre broy\u00e9e.<br \/>Son propos formel r\u00e9side dans un certain \u00e9quilibre de la composition et dans l\u2019association de couleurs dont la pr\u00e9sence est d\u00e9termin\u00e9e par la notion de poids, \u00e9quivalent intuitif, visuel, de la capacit\u00e9 d&rsquo;un objet \u00e0 occuper un espace \u2026 Cette pr\u00e9occupation fait suite \u00e0 l&rsquo;utilisation de pierres dispos\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de niches qui, quoique dispos\u00e9es \u00e0 partir des m\u00eames principes de composition, \u00e9taient plus une \u00e9vocation de la pr\u00e9sence ou des t\u00e9moins du passage.
